Update about the status of the National Migrant Education Conference

Friday, March 27, 2020

We want to provide the migrant ed community with up-to-date information about the status of the National Migrant Education Conference. We know there are questions you might have about the current situation with how the coronavirus is affecting the Conference. We want to to assure you that we have the welfare of the community as our first concern.

At this time (3/27/20), the City of Albuquerque has, somewhat surprisingly, only cancelled events through April 15, 2020. We are staying in close touch with the city and state officials regarding the use of the convention center. Therefore, NASDME has not yet been in a position to make changes to the scheduling of the 52nd Annual National Migrant Education Conference in Albuquerque, NM.

We are monitoring the entire situation regarding the coronavirus very closely, as it is evolving in New Mexico and around the country, and we will update  this information on the website as often as necessary. We are staying in touch with and working with Albuquerque and New Mexico officials and hotel representatives. We hope to have more definitive information in the next week.

The Conference is still more than five weeks from now and we will stay on top of all developments in the days ahead.

We will announce any new developments on this site.

If we need to cancel the Conference, please know that we are developing contingency plans which include exploring the possibility of a virtual conference or postponing the conference until later this year.

At this time, given the uncertainty and fluidity of the situation.
please know that we have not yet developed any new or revised refund policy.

We look forward to seeing you all in early May in New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, for the 52nd Annual National Migrant Education Conference!  We plan to have 175 workshops directed at every role in the Migrant Education Program and for all experience levels. We will also have four exciting general sessions and many opportunities for interstate coordination. You will be inspired by the 2020 Al Wright Scholarship winners! We will be working hard during the Conference, and we know you will leave with new ideas to help migratory students and families.

 See you all in Albuquerque!
